One of Britain’s top dressage horses has been ruled out of this summer’s Tokyo Olympics owing to injury.
Gareth Hughes’ 2019 European Championships team horse, the 15-year-old Trento B mare Classic Briolinca, sustained a strain to a ligament in her front leg at the start of this year. As a result, she has been withdrawn from Olympic team consideration.
“With that sort of injury they do need a few months off and the timing couldn’t have been worse; she will be back in work just as they trot down the centre line in Tokyo,” Gareth told

British Olympic medallist Fiona Bigwood has taken over the ride on Carl Hester’s former top horse Hawtins Delicato. Fiona, who was a member of Britain’s silver medal-winning dressage team at the Rio Olympics, took over riding Delicato in 2020, and now owns the 13-year-old Diamond Hit son, known as “Del”.
“When the Olympics were postponed last March, I offered Fiona the chance to have a sit on Del, and she got on really well with him so I said she could take him on,” Carl told
H&H.
“It’s working really well, because I teach Fiona so I can help her with him, and it means he continues to be kept in the lifestyle he is used to with a similar routine and lots of turnout. As far as I’m concerned, it’s an ideal situation.”

Studutch Online Auction
A frozen embryo by Chacco Blue W out of a half sister to jumper Explosion W (by Heartbreaker) became the top selling lot of the 2021 StuDutch Online Auction of Embryos and Semen straws that concluded on 22 February 2021.
A german client paid 24,000 euro for that jumper embryo.
The collection included 16 embryos and 36 semen straws. There was also a small lot of embryos that appealed to a dressage audience.
Total U.S Frozen Embryo
A frozen embryo by Total U.S out of Jane Esther SVN (half sister to Brother de Jeu) sold for 10,000 euro to Denmark.

Week three of the 2021 Global Dressage Festival (AGDF) concluded on Sunday, January 31, with victory for the USA’s Guenter Seidel and Equirelle in the Grand Prix Freestyle 4 , presented by U.S. P.R.E. Association.
In their first freestyle performance together, Seidel and Leatherdale Farms and Louise Leatherdale’s 2009 KWPN mare by Florett AS earned a 75.830% from judges to top the class.
