Donald Spencer Barcan, 84, Long Valley resident, leading expert in sterilization for medical devices

Donald Spencer Barcan of Long Valley, formerly of Maplewood, age 84, passed away on Wednesday, Dec. 2, 2020, at Morristown Medical Center. He was born in New York City on Sept. 11, 1936 to Irving and Helen (Judson) Barcan. He graduated from Lehigh University with a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering and from Seton Hall University with a master’s degree in business administration. He was a Tau Delta Phi fraternity brother. Don was an officer in the United States Army Reserve. Don’s career started with companies such as Avon, the Association for the Blind, Johnson and Johnson and CR Bard. He eventually started his own business, Donbar Industries, which he ran for over 40 years.
