The Lakes Distillery has unveiled a whisky matured in Sherry and red wine casks as the fourth release in its Whiskymaker’s Reserve series.

Launched in September 2019, the limited edition Whiskymaker’s Reserve series showcases the English distillery’s Sherry-led style.
The fourth bottling in the range comprises whisky matured in oloroso and Pedro Ximénez Sherry casks, and red wine barrels. The casks selected were made using Spanish, American and French oak.

The Lakes Distillery out of England recently unveiled its latest cask finished expression of The One fine blended whisky. The distillers said they were inspired by the floral nature of the Moscatel wine, and created an “uplifting and fragrant whisky.” The One Moscatel was finished in hand-selected Moscatel wine casks from southern Spain. The rest of the series is full of cask-finished whiskies that show the influence of oak and cask seasoning on the flavor of the single blend whisky.
The Moscatel is said by the brand to be similar in style to PX, though it is less sweet. The Moscatel wine is made with grapes sourced from Chipiona in the Cádiz province of Andalucía that are sun-dried before being pressed a process known as the Soleo process. This process creates a reduction in water and change in the sugar level, giving it fresh and floral characters in the cask itself.

English spirits producer The Lakes Distillery has added a Moscatel wine cask-finished whisky to The One series.

The One Moscatel blended whisky was finished in hand-picked Moscatel wine casks from southern Spain.
Moscatel wine is made from grapes grown in the town of Chipiona in the Cádiz province of Andalucía. The grapes are sun-dried before being pressed (a process known as soleo), producing less water and changing the sugar levels, viscosity, flavour and aroma of the juice.
The One Moscatel was blended by Dhavall Gandhi, The Lakes Distillery whisky maker, using Scotch grain and malt whiskies from the Highlands, Speyside and Islay.
