TUTICORIN: Unaccounted cash to the tune of Rs 67.96 lakh was seized from the owner of a brick kiln in the city late on Thursday evening.
The seizure was by a flying squad on election duty at Dhamodhara Nagar in the city when they checked the car in which it was carried. Preliminary inquiry revealed that the occupant of the vehicle owned a brick kiln at Madathur in Tuticorin district.
Since he could not produce documents supporting the cash he was carrying. The money was handed over to the assistant returning officer of Thoothukudi assembly segment Justin Chelladurai and later taken to the treasury for safe keeping. Income tax officials were also alerted and they were conducting inquiries with the man carrying it. This takes the total unaccounted case seizure in the district to Rs 83.86 lakh.
