The veteran investigator and former IPS officer submitted his resignation from All India Trinamool Congress
KOLKATA: Upen Biswas, former Trinamool minister and the man who was among the intelligentsia who supported Mamata Banerjee when she ousted the 34-year-old Left Front in 2011, has resigned from the party.
Upendra Nath Biswas, whom Mamata affectionately called “Upen da” retired as additional director of the CBI in 2002. The man who was responsible for sending Lalu Prasad Yadav to jail, leading the fodder scam cases against him, was one of Mamata’s most trusted lieutenants when she spearheaded the land movement before wresting Bengal a decade ago.

In a book titled
Dhamma Adhamma that is yet to be published, 79-year-old Upen Biswas, also a former IPS officer who has served as the additional CBI director, has written that the Ponzi scheme was a âmonumental fraud, which overshadows all other scams of Indiaâ.Â
