Man Allegedly Opened Fire in Long Island Grocery Store, Killing 1 and Injuring 2 People 5 days ago Christine Pelisek © Provided by People CBS New York Three people were shot at a Long Island grocery store Police in New York State have arrested a suspect accused of killing one person and injuring two others in a shooting spree at a grocery store on Long Island.  Gabriel DeWitt Wilson, 30, was taken into custody Tuesday in connection with the shooting, which took place at a Stop & Shop grocery store in West Hempstead. Police had earlier described him as a person of interest.   He left the scene, and he was witnessed still carrying the handgun, Nassau County Police Commissioner Patrick Ryder said during a press conference Tuesday, CNN reports.

Although the authorities said they were actively searching for Wilson, they stopped short of calling him a suspect, rather describing him as a person of interest they believe to be the shooter. NEW YORK - A gunman shot three workers at a Stop & Shop supermarket in West Hempstead, Long Island, on Tuesday, killing one of them. Authorities say the suspect, Gabriel Dewitt Wilson, 31, who is believed to have worked at the store, was arrested after a manhunt. Nassau County Police Commissioner Patrick Ryder says the shooting happened inside a manager s office at about 11 a.m. upstairs from the shopping floor. Nassau County Police say more than 150 police officers descended on the area and were searching for the shooter. Several hours after the shooting, police converged on a neighborhood in nearby Hempstead.

(AP) — An employee suspected of shooting three workers at an office inside a Long Island grocery store Tuesday, killing a manager, was arrested hours after fleeing, police said. Gabriel DeWitt Wilson, 31, was taken into custody around 3:15 p.m. at an apartment building about 2 miles (3 kilometers) from the store, Nassau County Police Commissioner Patrick Ryder said. Information on charges and a lawyer who could speak on Wilson’s behalf wasn’t immediately available.
