The City of Thomasville is pursuing a grant to help pay for upgrades to water, sewer, and drainage infrastructure in the Dewey City neighborhood. The overall plan cost close to $4 million. If the city’s federal application is approved it could get up to $750 thousand. City planner Kenneth Thompson says the current pipes are near the end of their life. We have a number of pipes that are aging and they may be made out of a material that is no longer the most suitable material. So we will be looking to use the funds to expedite that process, said Thompson.

Updated: Dec 28, 2020 11:27 AM Washington County Deputy Returns to Work After Crash   Garrett Giles A Washington County Sheriff s Deputy that was involved in a vehicle collision last Tuesday within the Dewey City limits is back on the job. Sheriff Owen said Deputy Virden received a rash from the air bag when it deployed during the collision. He said the deputy was also exihibiting some soreness. Deputy Virden returned to work on Saturday, Dec. 26th, four days after the crash. Sheriff Owen said the deputy was not at fault in the accident. He said he was thankful that the deputy and the occupants of the other vehicle walked away without serious injuries.
