2020 recap: 22 homicides reported in Tuscaloosa County
Authorities in Tuscaloosa County investigated 22 homicides during 2020, the highest number in more than a decade.
Last year’s total was one more homicide than the 21 investigated in 2019 and matched the 22 homicides recorded in 2008.
While there may not be much change between the overall totals, the homicide classifications are where the differences between 2020 and 2019 are seen.
More capital murder cases were reported in 2019 whereas more non-capital murder cases were reported in 2020. There was also one additional justified homicide case reported in 2019, which is a homicide that was determined justified and no charges were brought.
