In-person graduations return for Columbus City Schools Class of 2021
They trotted across the stage sporting glittery heels and sparkly sneakers, waving eagerly to their families across the ballroom.
Some danced or struck a pose. One spectator set off an air horn. Proud parents and supportive friends snapped photos with their cellphones, hollered and cheered.
After a stressful, grueling and unpredictable year, it was finally time to celebrate the Class of 2021.
Until a few months ago, the 76 graduates of South High School didn t even know if they would be able to share an in-person graduation ceremony.
Attendees wore masks and graduates were limited to four guests. But after attending classes mostly online and in-person for just half a week, with half of their classmates, throughout the spring the ceremony at the Greater Columbus Convention Center was still some of the most normalcy the seniors had experienced during the entire school year.

Davis Mosqueda was with a group of friends at an apartment in Boise on Dec. 30 when Devon Arnold, the suspect in the fatal shooting, showed up just after 1 a.m., the Boise police said in a statement. Mosqueda left the apartment to check on a friend when he was shot near the parking lot, the police said. The young Marine was taken to a hospital with multiple gunshot wounds, Ada County coroner Dotti Owens said in a statement last Thursday, but efforts to save him failed and he was pronounced dead in the emergency department.

Just after 1:00 a.m. Boise Police were called to a report of a shooting near Fairview Ave. and Cloverdale Rd. Officers from Boise and Meridian secured the scene and Ada County Paramedics rushed the male adult victim to the hospital but he was pronounced deceased. Officers began an investigation and one person, identified as Devon Arnold, was taken into custody. A preliminary investigation shows that the victim was with a group of friends at an apartment in the area when the suspect showed up. Evidence shows the victim had exited the residence to check on a friend when he was shot near a parking lot in the area of Cloverfield Ln and Dawn Pl. The suspect remained on scene and after further investigation by the Boise Police Violent Crimes Unit, Arnold was booked into the Ada County Jail on the listed charge.
