With nearly 1,500 fast-selling houses built or planned and another 700 rentals, a place like Cadence at Gateway would be the big game in town in most cities.
It appears to be about halfway there â more hub than heart.
Indeed, an almost Greek chorus of complaints arises from the residents of the high-end community nearly every time Eastmark is mentioned: âWe want better restaurants! We want better shopping!â
Councilman Kevin Thompson recently posted on Facebook about early-stage development plans, including a proposal at Signal Butte and Elliot roads, on the west edge of Eastmark.
Predictably, a few dozen comments were posted almost immediately.
âKevin Thompson, please, please, please persuade Mesa to put in some really good restaurants!â begged Melissa Bell. âOne-half mile to the west of my house is a Sonic, Burger King, Culverâs and a Jack in the Box. One-half mile to the east is a McDonalds, Wendyâs and possibly a Whataburger. Weâre tired of burgers over here!â
Columbus Academy Roundup: Vikings Gyvnn Mendenhall achieves goal by reaching state wrestling tournament
ThisWeek group
Columbus Academy junior wrestler Gyvnn Mendenhall waited patiently during the offseason for another chance to qualify for the Division III state tournament.
He seized his opportunity in the district tournament March 5 and 6 at Coshocton, finishing fourth at 220 pounds to advance to state March 13 and 14 at Marion Harding. He entered state with a 16-3 record.
Mendenhall qualified for state last season at 195, but the tournament was canceled because of the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic.
“This shows you he’s a pretty good wrestler,” coach Paul Bukky said. “He’s a quick study. You show him something and he usually goes out and does it.”
