McGregor Links plans special centennial celebrations this year

WILTON, N.Y. — Local golf course McGregor Links is marking its 100th anniversary, with some special centennial celebrations planned for the season. Located at 359 Northern Pines Rd. in Wilton, McGregor Links Country Club is rich in history. The site was developed by New York State Senator Edgar T. Brackett and designed by world-renowned architect Devereux Emmet, who created more than 150 golf courses including Bethpage, Congressional and Leatherstocking. While many of Emmet’s courses have become outdated due to technological developments in the sport, “This one was ahead of its time,” explained McGregor Links president Joe Kehn, who became a co-owner of the business in 2020. Before that, he served as the course superintendent.

FALMOUTH A proposal is before the Planning Board to convert an almost 100-year old golf course in Hatchville into a solar farm. In a letter read into the record at the Planning Board s Feb. 23 meeting, David Friel, owner of Cape Cod Country Club on Theatre Drive, cited less business over the last decade has led him to pursue alternate uses for the property. “The expansion of golf courses on the Cape over the past decade or two and the reduction in the number of golfers nationwide has forced me, from a financial viability standpoint, to consider other land use options for the Cape Cod Country Club,” he said.
