7:00 PM   The New Shoreham Town Council will consider amendments to the Zoning Ordinance related to Solar Energy Systems, as follows.  Deletions appear crossed out and additions are underlined.  The proposed language may be altered or amended prior to the close of the public hearing without further advertising, as a result of further study or because of the views expressed at the public hearing. Any alteration or amendment must be presented for comment in the course of the hearing.   Section 517 – Solar Energy Systems (SES) A. Purpose: This section is intended to provide for and encourage the installation of solar energy systems on Block Island. Such systems shall include both solar thermal, to heat water, and photovoltaic systems, to create electricity. Photovoltaic systems may either provide power to be consumed on site, or be connected to the electrical production and distribution system with credit given by the utility for excess power produced.

The proposed construction for a new public shoreline access walkway at Andy’s Way (Plat 3, Lot 155) was brought forth again to the Planning Board on Wednesday, Jan. 13 with the Town of New Shoreham seeking the request of a waiver from Development Plan Review. The application, submitted by the town, was previously discussed at the Wednesday, Dec. 9 meeting, with the board granting an approval to send a favorable advisory to the Zoning Board for the application.

A virtual public hearing was continued for applicants Nick and Pam Gelsomini on an application off Corn Neck Road (Plat 4, Lot 63) for a Development Plan Review, and an Advisory to the Zoning Board for a Special Use Permit to demolish an existing single-family dwelling and construct a single family dwelling, accessory residential structure, spa and in-ground pool. At the Planning Board’s Sept. 9 public hearing on the Gelsominis’ application, members of the Planning Board and the Committee for the Great Salt Pond raised concerns about the Great Salt Pond and the wetlands that are on the property. The two boards also expressed concerns with the development appearing large for the lot. The applicants took into consideration the comments and concerns from the two boards

The Fianna Fáil Senator says if the current proposal is adopted, it would depopulate the north Louth area, which she claims in the long term will end up closing schools and football clubs Speaking in the Seanad yesterday, Senator McGreehan urged the public to make written submissions before the deadline at 12pm on Wednesday December 23rd.
