Last year, when she filed her 2019 tax return, Nyvonne Stevens got a combined $3,500 back from the federal earned income and child tax credits.
This tax season, she could get double that from these and other tax credits expanded under President Joe Biden’s $1.9 trillion COVID relief package signed last month.
Stevens already has plans for the extra cash.
“I am actually trying to buy a house,” said Stevens, a Milwaukee mother of two who is going through an ACT Housing program that helps low-income residents purchase rehabbed homes. “That is why this money is so important to me. I need to put something in my savings that would push me forward.”
