Council officials block naming Accrington street David Lloyd Way

COUNCIL officials have vetoed naming a street after Lancashire cricket captain and England national coach David Lloyd. Developer Countryside Properties wanted to name one of two new roads at their housing estate off Ribblesdale Avenue, Accrington, after the all rounder-turned-TV commentator who was born in the town. But Hyndburn Council officials rejected their preferred David Lloyd Way, suggested by Accrington Cricket Club where the 73-year-old started his playing career, as town hall policies barred using the names of living people. In a report to the borough’s Cabinet street naming committee tomorrow, they recommend Bowler Avenue and Fields Way instead.
