Watched an interesting piece of history last night in the form of the 1967 film Guess Who s Coming to Dinner. The classic stars Katherine Hepburn and Spencer Tracy as liberal parents who are facing their daughter wanting to marry a black man in the fast-changing 60s. Directed by Stanley Kramer, the film was nominated for best picture but lost to another race-themed film In the Heat of the Night. Incredibly, Sidney Poitier appeared in both movies and was nominated for best actor for playing Detective Virgil Tibbs in Heat. Poitier lost to Rod Steiger who played the racist sheriff in that crime drama. Previously, Sidney Poitier had won the best actor Oscar for Lilies of the Field.
