I picked the killer. Well, not until the end of episode six. But still. I never pick the killer. No wonder I was so damn pleased with myself, especially as just about every character looked like a suspect at some point.
I’m talking about
Mare of Easttown, the seven-episode murder mystery set in small-town Pennsylvania and starring Kate Winslet as Detective Mare Sheehan. But it’s much more than a whodunnit. It’s a character study of a grieving cop on the edge after suffering the slings and arrows that have come at her from every direction: a son lost to addiction and suicide, a broken marriage, a custody battle for a grandchild, an unsolved case that gnaws at her soul and threatens her reputation.

. The seven-part show stars Kate Winslet, along with Julianne Nicholson, Guy Pearce and Jean Smart.
The show was so popular that ahead of the US streaming premiere of the finale on Sunday, HBO Max crashed, leaving fans temporarily unable to watch the last episode. However, the technical problem was resolved in fewer than 30 minutes.
Winslet, in particular, has been lauded for her portrayal of Detective Mare Sheehan.
