we re back. huge crowds gathering for a funeral for a new york city police detective who died in a suicide bombing in afghanistan. it happened at st. patrick s cathedral here in manhattan. detective joseph lemm was a 15 year veteran of the nypd. he served in the air national guard. a sea of blue outside the cathedral today. hundreds of police officers and military service members lined the streets. lemm s 4-year-old son was also there to salute his dad s casket as it was carried into st. patrick s. detective lemm, one of six americans who died last week when a taliban suicide bomber attacked their patrol outside bagroom air base. the teenager who killed four
they were trying to serve a search warrant when the suspect opened fire hitting them both. the gunman then barricaded himself inside his odessa apartment leading to a nine-hour apartment. he eventually surrendered. both officers fortunately will be okay. gunfire explodes on an arizona freeway. two people shot in an apparent road rage incident in phoenix. one person was shot in the chest, the other shot in the leg. circumstances surrounding the shooting are unclear. sections of the 101 freeway remain closed at this hour. the remains of the six americans killed in afghanistan are now home. flag draped caskets carrying their bodies arriving at dover airbase during a dignified transfer ceremony. at bagram airbase their helmets, rifles, and boots were on display during a solemn memorial. the six air force members were killed when a taliban bomber rammed his motorcycle into patrol. one of the victims is nypd detective joseph lemm.

grapples with how to beat back the taliban. barbara starr is live, giving us all of the latest. what have you learned, barbara? reporter: good morning, alisyn. one of those who perished in this motorcycle bomb attack in afghanistan was a new york police detective and the nypd commissioner, william bratton, issued a statement discussion the man who served that department and served his country. let me read part of it. detective joseph lemm epitomized the sellessness he strived for. he not only served new yorkers as a member of this department but served his country as a member of the u.s. air national guard. detective lemm was a 15-year veteran of the nypd, promoted to detective in january of last year and he served in a bronx warrant squad. one of the six we expect to learn, of course, the names and about the lives of the other five who perished in the coming
