Testimony: Road rage may have prompted fatal shooting

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) The fatal shooting of a Tennessee nurse along Interstate 440 may have been prompted by road rage, according to testimony at a court hearing.
It was the first time a possible motive has been offered in the killing of Caitlyn Kaufman, 26, who was shot on Dec. 3 as she drove to work at St. Thomas West Hospital in Nashville. Two men Devaunte Lewis Hill, 21, and James Edward Cowan, 28 have been charged with criminal homicide in her death.
A detective and a witness, who wasn’t identified, testified during their probable cause hearing on Thursday that Hill said the woman had cut them off while driving along the interstate, news outlets reported. That prompted the gunfire, according to testimony from Detective Chris Dickerson and the witness, whose identity is being protected by the court due to threats of physical danger.

The second man wanted for the December 3rd murder of Nashville nurse Caitlyn Kaufman as she traveled to work on I-440 is now in custody.
James Edward Cowan, 28, was apprehended tonight as the car in which he was riding backed into a parking spot at a Hickory Hollow Place apartment complex. MNPD undercover detectives, TBI & ATF agents surveilled the car as it traveled to the apartment complex from a Sidco Drive motel. It is suspected that Cowan had been staying at the motel for the past few days.
And odds are, someone out there is friends with Caitlyn Kaufman. And they’ll never forget how she died and who murdered her.

Her Name is Caitlyn Kaufman. A tip from a concerned citizen led to the arrest of a man in connection with the murder of 26-year-old Tennessee nurse Caitlyn Kaufman.
Kaufman was in her vehicle on the way to work an overnight shift in the ICU at St. Thomas West Hospital Dec. 3 when she was shot multiple times.

(NASHVILLE) Metro Police have arrested 21-year old Devaunte L. Hill and charged him with murding Ascension St. Thomas Nurse Caitlyn Kaufman as she drove to work on I-440. Hill was taken into custody at his apartment in the Berkshire Place complex on Porter Road in East Nashville.
Hill was brought to MNPD headquarters where he was interviewed by Homicide Unit Detectives Chris Dickerson and Jefferson Hughes. Hill implicated himself in the case. The two did not know each other. Additional arrests are possible.
“Detectives from our Homicide Unit have worked around the clock pursuing the more than 50 Crime Stoppers tips and other leads in this case,” Chief John Drake said. “They were joined by scientists at our Crime Laboratory, MNPD electronics experts, and our partners at the FBI, ATF and TBI. On behalf of Nashville, I am grateful to all of these men and women.”

NASHVILLE, Tenn. â Officers with the Metro Nashville Police Department (MNPD) have arrested a 21-year-old man suspected of killing a nurse on a local highway as she drove to work earlier this month.
Caitlyn Kaufman, 26, was shot and killed on Interstate 440 on Dec. 3 as she drove to her job at St. Thomas West Hospital. Her death shocked the city of Nashville and garnered national attention.
On Friday morning, MNPD Chief John Drake announced that SWAT members took 21-year-old Devaunte L. Hill into custody earlier in the day without incident at Hill s East Nashville apartment. Hill has been charged with criminal homicide.
