Detective Luca Benedetti with the San Luis Obispo Police Department was fatally shot Monday evening by a suspect in an apartment complex while police were executing a search warrant for allegedly stolen property, the department said Tuesday. Another officer, Detective Steven Orozco, was wounded during that shooting and was treated at a hospital.

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. - Three residents of Northern California were arrested in San Luis Obispo for allegedly cutting off and stealing catalytic converters from parked vehicles.
San Luis Obispo police received a call from a citizen who reported seeing a dark minivan in an area where the sound of metal being cut was heard.
Police responded to the area and located the minivan driving and conducted a traffic stop.
Police said three people were in the van as well as two catalytic converters and tools that could be used in their removal.
One of the people in the van admitted to stealing the catalytic converters earlier that day, police said.

San Luis Obispo police arrested three people from Northern California who are suspected of multiple catalytic converter thefts.
Police say a resident in the 100 block of Mustang Drive called police just after 1 a.m. on Wednesday to report hearing what sounded like metal being cut, concerned it may be related to recent catalytic converter thefts.
The citizen reported a dark minivan with a roof-mounted cargo rack in the area at the time.

Following a tip from an alert resident early Wednesday morning, San Luis Obispo police reportedly caught three thieves from Northern California with four stolen catalytic converters.
Shortly after 1 a.m., a 911 caller reported hearing what sounded like metal being cut in the 100 block of Mustang Drive. The witness reported seeing a dark minivan in the area with a cargo rack on the roof. The individual suspected the incident was related to recent catalytic converter thefts, police said.
An officer arrived in the area, located the minivan and stopped it. Three suspects were inside the vehicle.
