Miss Destin’s primary duty is to serve during the month-long October Destin Fishing Rodeo as well as an ambassador for the city throughout the year.
“I feel like I have dreamed of this after seeing the first Miss Destin. It’s always been a dream,” Sparks said just moments after being crowned Saturday night.
“When I found out I was going to be staying here another year, it was a no-brainer to try out again,” Sparks said.
Sparks, a senior at Niceville High School, plans to attend Northwest Florida State College next year and then later transfer to the University of Florida in Gainesville.

After finding a $100 bill in the road while walking her dog, a regular patron of the Destin Library decided to use books to spread the good luck.
The patron, who asked to remain anonymous, was thrilled to find the $100, but wanted to pass on that “thrill of the find” to others.
So, she went to the bank and had them change the $100 into fives. She then brought the $5 bills to the Destin Library and asked if library workers could somehow anonymously hand them out to other patrons.
The library came up with the idea of making bookmarks and wrapping them with a $5 and a note that simply says, “Thanks to a generous donation by a grateful patron, we humbly give you this special bookmark.”
“So we just thought how amazing it would be to bring all that together under one roof at the new high school,” Skiles said. “To bring both the faith community and the community together. We’re not separate, we’re all one.
Also on Wednesday, May 12, there will be a Blessing of the Youth event with pizza, worship and prayer from 6-7 p.m. at Clement Taylor Park on Calhoun Avenue.
The week will wrap up on May 13 with the 64th annual Blessing of the Fleet. The event will begin at 4 p.m. with a captains worship and prayer service under the big tent behind Brotula’s Seafood House Steamer. The public is encouraged to attend. Following the service, local clergy will proceed to the docks to begin the blessing of the fleet.
