Montreal will give out boxes of free toys and baby supplies to every family in the city with a new infant starting next year. The so-called "welcome baby" boxes will be available in 45 city libraries as of Jan.
Residents in Montreal's west end say the flooding in their neighbourhood has been a problem for decades. They are accusing the city of hiding behind "climate change rhetoric," while refusing to make the much needed renovations to the sewer network.
A program offering free menstrual products in Montreal municipal buildings is expanding. The city's boroughs can now purchase dispensers and products for the buildings under their jurisdiction, Mayor Valérie Plante's office announced on June 1. That means free pads and tampons are about to become more widely available. There are currently 42 buildings under the central municipal government's jurisdiction that already offer those products for free.
