âShe was supposed to do her Grade 12 this year. But now she will be doing matric in heaven.â
These are the words of Mongezi Eric Sondara (46) following the murder of his daughter Alwaba Sondara (20).
Her tragic death, allegedly at the hands of her boyfriend, Asive Kulwana (28), has sent shock waves through Paarl.
Alwaba, a Grade 11 learner at Desmond Mpilo Tutu Secondary School in Mbekweni, was brutally assaulted on 18 December, a mere week before Christmas Day.
She was admitted to Paarl Hospital, but due to the severity of her injuries, she was later transferred to Tygerberg Hospital for specialised care. There she remained in a coma until she died in the early hours of 12 January.
