the good part is when you find debris, then you know where you can go down to get the recorders. and those two recorders have the key to everything of interest. vernon, we re looking at a map now. there s a red line where the malaysian military originally said they thought the jet had gone west. but the original track of the plane, the malaysian airline, the track, the heading, was right along where this site, debris site is said to be, off the koesh coast of vietnam. it seems to add up, but again, we can t confirm that until they get boats and they actually get pieces and collect them from that area. however, we have quite a bit of equipment available in that area. now, i never really did buy that western-southwestern track they came up with anyhow, and i think they even retracted it as well. but the original flight pattern,
the one where the white arrow is, the one we re really concerned about, i think it fits the pattern beautifully. and i m very excited about that development. all right, vernon, give me your best guess. and obviously, there s a lot to learn and recovering black boxes is something that could potentially happen, as you get closer to that debris site. your best guess of what could have happened to this plane. well, there are three or four options, but the best guess i have is that they had an explosive decompression, disintegration of the aircraft at 37,000 feet, about one hour out. this would fit that, if we do that that way. so i think i m pretty well convinced that s what happened. there was no announcement by the cr crew, had there been intrusion into the cockpit, they would have had a chance to give a mayday. they didn t have that chance. it had to be sudden and
aircraft, and there s a separate independent data streen of interest to investigators that sends virtually real time information to the airline about the aircraft s maintenance condition. that data is out there. it would be interesting to find out if it continued on from when they found out they lost connection with the plane. this recent faa air worthiness directive which ordered checks on 777s is also drawing new scrutiny. it said cracks in the jet s skin could read to a, quote, rapid decompression and loss of integrity. when the data is collected by faa and they see there s a pattern, perhaps, or something that is happening to these airplanes, they will issue these a.d.s. as the search expanded to 27,000 nautical square miles, an area roughly the size of indiana, recriminations and frust rail boiled over after conflicting reports about the jet s sudden u-turn.
this is a fux news alert updating our lead story. the chinese government has released new satellite images. they may show the debris of the missing malaysia airlines boeing 777. the report is saying the images are from 11:00 a.m. on march 9th. they appear to show three suspected floating objects of varying sizes. pretty large sizes, from experts who have looked at these. the coordinates of the location in the sea off the southern tip of vietnam and east of malaysia, which were part of the original search area after the plane vanished early saturday. the search for the plane has encompassed more than 35,000 square miles. joining us, vernon grose. vernon, thanks so much for joining us. your thoughts on these images and this investigation as it stands now.
black boxes, which by the way, are not black, they re orange, would be located, if in fact that s the spot where the plane went down. well, we have a lot of ifs this evening. if in fact this is the wreckage of 370, this narrows the area and allows investigators to go in and identify the black boxes. again, the satellite images provide important clues. they ve got to look at the last known contact between the vietnamese air traffic controllers and the crew. does this dove tail with that information? and also, the wreckage that s there, is it consistent in the satellite images with the size of the boeing 777, and it does appear to be the case. last thing, it would indicate that perhaps the malaysians who said that the plane may have turned, would have been wrong. correct. if this was the area. this appears that it continued not on that western course but on actually that eastern course. okay. thank you. you re welcome. we ll follow this.
