Place North West | McGoff reworks long-awaited Urmston food hall

Dan Whelan The developer is preparing to resubmit plans for the £3.5m Market 41 so it includes hotel rooms and events space, reconfiguring the scheme to make it fit for the post-Covid world.  “The way in which we conduct our day-to-day working lives and spend our leisure time has been reset for the foreseeable future,” said Chris McGoff, director of McGoff Group. “[This has] forced a rethink of how Market 41 will function in a post-pandemic world and how best to future-proof the concept against unforeseeable operational risk should further restrictions or lockdowns present themselves,” he added.  Trafford Council granted McGoff Group planning consent for the 13,600 sq ft Railway Road venture in 2018 but a string of delays, including those enforced by the Covid-19 pandemic, has prevented work starting on site.

HS2 design panel backs scaled-back Euston station plans Source:  Grimshaw High Speed 2’s (HS2) Independent Design Panel has supported changes at Euston Station which would see plans for the Grimshaw-designed terminus scaled back Chaired by co-founder of dRMM Architects Sadie Morgan, the panel said it welcomed a shift in approach at Euston in its just-published winter 2020-2021 report. Advertisement Plans for the reduction in size first emerged last year when Transport for London (TfL) revealed it had formally ordered a redesign following recommendations made in the Oakervee review. While the station itself will be shrunk – with the number of platforms dropping from 11 to 10 – HS2 has been told to increase its oversite development plans. It is also thought the redevelopment could also be delivered in a single stage rather than the previously proposed two-phase design.

Skolnick Architecture converts historic Hamptons church into an arts centre Tall windows and timber framing feature in this 1830s church building in New York, which has been converted into a cultural facility by Skolnick Architecture and Design Partnership. The Church is located in Sag Harbor, a former whaling village that spans the towns of East Hampton and Southampton on Long Island. The gabled church has its own bell tower The original building, which dates to 1836, housed the Methodist Church of Sag Harbor until 2008 when the congregation moved to a new home. After several proposals for the building fell through, the property was purchased by the married artists Eric Fischl and April Gornik, who have lived in the area for decades.
