times published that accentuate an issue potentially with rebar. you know the issue. give me the lay explanation of what i m looking at. what you re looking at there is the slab that failed or fell off that potentially was supporting that column. again, i want to caution against speculation or assigning design flaws or construction flaws. it s way too early to determine that. but i believe in the report it also recommended to have support piles added to those columns. again, if that engineer felt that strongly, i think we merit further investigation for the design constraints. you know there is a question being raised as to whether the amount of rebar that s in that photograph comports with the original design drawings. i guess, though, the original design drawings are not as telling as the final design

another section said the driveway on top of the garage had poor drainage, design flaw. a third said there s no waterproofing layer over the garage, driveway or any area except the pool deck and planters. this exposed the garage to water intrusion for 40 years. where there is waterproofing, it has failed. water has gotten underneath and caused additional damage to the concrete. when asked if the design flaws were being investigated, officials say it s too early to talk about the investigation. we re focusing on recovering victims right now. this will be a long process and will be very thorough. reporter: with ever troubling document unearthed says mayor charles burkett, the concerns grow over a sister building built about the same time. there is some anxiety about the sister building which is really got the same name, same developer, same plans, probably
under way soon. for more on the 2018 reports, let s bring in deborah acosta. i guess i m concerned first of all with the language that was used and where that language is on the scale of you don t need to do anything right now to act immediately. yeah, mika. the engineering firm that was hired to inspect the building in 2018 pointed to some concerning design flaws that you mentioned in the building but didn t cite it in until the ninth page of the report. and called it good on five measures. nothing that indicated the building was about to collapse. so i notice go ahead. i was just going to mention the twin building, north, that s just a couple buildings down from the collapse was constructed at almost the same exact time and that is still
the 2018 inspection in fact of the tower that flagged a quote major error. what can you tell us about this major error. are you hearing any official response to these reports today? thank you for having me. the town of surfside released a number of new documents late last night, one of those documents was a 2018 report by an engineer who had reviewed the building, and suggested that there were design flaws, essentially, in part of the building, and specifically in its pool deck area, which was preventing proper drainage of the water from that area. the suggestion in this 2018 report was that over time, this had resulted in damage to the concrete, both at the pool deck area, and below, in the parking garage. i want to be clear at this
