FLINT, MI As Halloween neared, Messiah Williams was looking forward to trick-or-treating in his new Baby Yoda costume. Little more than a week before he could do so, the 3-year-old boy was shot and killed when police say several men opened fire on his family’s Flint home.
Months on and with the new year dawning, Messiah’s family is hoping the state will adopt a new law in the slain boy’s name that will make it mandatory for anyone who shoots into a populated area and kills a child to be imprisoned for life without parole.
