I spent the best part of an afternoon and evening reading a fascinating essay, The Wires That Bind, by Australian-American engineer Saul Griffith. He is a MacArthur Grant recipient, inventor and policy-maker who has spoken to various American administrations in his time in the US. However, what really fascinated me was Griffith’s return to Australia during the Covid pandemic.
My car is yellow. Not a delicate shade of lemon or even a subtle primrose colour; nor, indeed, is it a classy muted mustard with a metallic glow. When I say yellow, I mean yellow as in the big bright sun in the sky in the top corner of a young child’s drawing.
