Facts or fiction Oh dear me! The Adver s Daily Mail readers really don t like the truth about the success of the EU and the utter failure of Brexit, do they? You could tell from their letters that Des Morgan and others were almost incandescent with rage that I had the temerity to point out some very salient facts in my letter (SA, April 8). Des and others claimed that Brexit was the reason for the success, thus far, of the Covid-19 vaccination programme in the UK. Utter poppycock - of course - but don t let the truth get in the way of a good story. The success is due to the NHS, not the Tory government or Brexit. It is also due to the co-operation and the brilliance of UK, EU, US and other scientists from around the world.

Oh dear me – poor Des Morgan still doesn t get it, does he? Admittedly, he may have not seen the recent figures I supplied to the Adver (April 10), as he was too busy ranting against me in his letter on the same day! So, for his benefit, I reiterate – government figures show an export loss to the EU of £5.6 billion in January 2021, a drop of 40 per cent. At this rate, over nine months we’ll have lost a sum equal to all the money the UK paid to the EU over 40 years – absolutely no benefit there. Put that on the side of a bus.!

Nasty little genie The NHS needs to do far more to support its European doctors if it wants to hold on to them, a new study has shown, which shows Brexit has triggered feelings of alienation. Brexit had a profound impact on the majority of UK-based European doctors studied, making many feel unwelcome and unwanted, with uncertain rights to work straining relationships . Well, what a surprise.Wouldn t you feel that? We asked them to come over here because we need them, then suddenly they ve got far fewer rights and less status than they had.
