The Des Moines Fire Department announced on Wednesday that the department responded to a call nearly every 16 minutes in 2023 setting a new record number of calls.
Crews responded just after 1 a.m. Monday to a building near the intersection of East University and East 33rd Street. They remained there for hours, battling flames and hot spots.
Crews were called to U Pull It, 1600 NE 44th Ave., early Friday afternoon. Nearby E 14th Street/US Highway 69 was closed between E. Aurora Avenue and NE Broadway Avenue due to emergency vehicles responding.
