Williams Lake Fire Department attends 330 calls for service in 2020 SHARE ON: Williams Lake Fire Department -File photo MyCaribooNow.com staff) The Williams Lake Fire Department attended 330 calls for service in 2020 according to Fire Chief Erick Peterson’s year in review report. Of those calls the most common were commercial fire alarms followed closely by motor vehicle incidents and entrapments. The overall call numbers were: Fire Alarm Commercial – 67 Fire Alarm Residential – 56 Hydro Lines Down – 7 Burnt food was the leading cause of false alarms by far. Peterson says false alarms are tracked to see if one property is generating too many calls, and if so, hope to change behaviour and resolve the issue.

Rapid response paramedic team deployed to Williams Lake SHARE ON: Cariboo Memorial Hospital -MyCaribooNow-staff BC Emergency Health Services deployed its rapid response team for a second time this past Saturday (January 16th). One critical care paramedic and one primary care paramedic have been stationed in Williams Lake. BCEHS says a second replacement crew will start tomorrow and will be deployed until the end of shift this Thursday. Spokesperson Shannon Miller explained the primary role of the team is to support the community’s existing paramedics in both patient transfers and 9-1-1 medical responses. Miller added the rural community of about 10,000 is currently experiencing high levels of COVID-19 patients and that they are working closely with Interior Health to be called upon, as needed for support at Cariboo Memorial Hospital.
