Saturday’s high school roundup: York uses late outburst to edge Sanford

SANFORD York broke a 2-2 tie with two runs in the fifth inning, then added three runs in the sixth and held on for a 7-6 baseball win Saturday against Sanford.
Luke Doughty, Hayden Henriksen and Tyler Conant each had two hits for York (2-0). Josh Gennaro pitched five innings, allowing three runs, and Doughty got the final three outs for the save.
Timothy Curley hit a triple and Dan Williams singled twice for Sanford (1-3).
Prep school programs forced to scramble for opponents
With out-of-state travel off the table during the pandemic, athletic schedules are greatly reduced and include a mix of public and private school opponents.

Berwick Academy’s athletic teams have been unable to play their traditional out-of-state opponents this winter, forcing them to cobble together schedules. The private school’s basketball teams have been playing southern Maine teams that compete in the Maine Principals’ Association.
