I agree with many comments about marine ply having a redish colour as in mahogany. You can t go by price as Cabinet grade plywood is very expensive having no voids.
I have made bird nesting boxes but have only ever used untreated pine then sealed the outside only with a stain/preservative finish, I did however paint the hole which I should not have done. This one and the feeder have lasted from when I made them in 2014 until last year not sure if they are still going as my Mum passed last year and not sure what happen to them after that

Thanks for that Steve. Ask any question regards of how to do a certain job and you ll get different answers proportional to the number of people asked. I was lucky in the respect that the toolroom I started my hingineering career as the youngest of five in the department, next youngest was 55. Boy, did they know their onions. In seeing you do something Dodgy , first warning would be a shout. Second offence would be a kick up the posterior and third a piece of 4 x 2 on the back of the head. I never achieved the Honour of stage two or three and they managed to make sure I didn t suffer from some of their Battle scars . Learned more under their collective wings than the Book ways and Tech.
