For most gardeners, the sight of tell-tale holes on prized roses and cabbages is their worst nightmare, and much conventional advice aims at keeping the grubs that munch plants away from flowerbeds.
Experts at the charity have worked for years to find ways to keep nuisance insects including slugs out of the garden, and recently conducted a study where they pitted solutions including egg shells and wood mulch against each other to find the best one.
