George Floyd Death: Derek Chauvin will be sent to Minnesota’s only maximum-security prison. He pleaded guilty in federal court in December 2021 and admitted to violating a federal criminal civil rights statute on two separate occasions.
Derek Chauvin asked the Minnesota Court of Appeals in a court filing Monday to reverse his conviction, reverse and remand for a new trial in a new venue, or order a resentencing.
Chauvin’s plea Wednesday means he will not face a federal trial in January, though he could end up spending more years behind bars. Federal prosecutors have recommended a sentence of up to 25 years in prison.
