The F-16 "Fighting Falcon" (known as "Viper" to its operators) is a single-engine multirole fighter. It was initially designed and produced by General Dynamics up until 1993 when the company sold the Fort Worth production line to Lockheed Martin. More than 4,500 F-16s have been produced and more than 2,800 aircraft remain in operation with 25 nations, making the type among the most prolific fighter families in the post-World War II period.

DRDO has successfully trialled the Python-5 missile and the Derby beyond visual range air-to-air missile for the Tejas light combat aircraft.
Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has conducted a trial of the 5th generation Python-5 air-to-air missile (AAM) for the Tejas, India’s indigenous light combat aircraft.
The trials aimed to test the Python-5’s air-to-air weapons capability and the capability of the already integrated Derby Beyond Visual Range (BVR) AAM.
Derby achieved direct hits on a high-speed manoeuvring aerial target. Python-5 also achieved 100% hits, meeting all the planned objectives of the trials.

Trials were also aimed to validate enhanced capability of already integrated Derby Beyond Visual Range (BVR) AAM on Tejas, a DRDO statement said on Wednesday.
The test firing in Goa on Tuesday completed a series of missile trials to validate its performance under extremely challenging scenarios, it said. Derby missile achieved direct hit on a high-speed manoeuvring aerial target and the Python missiles also achieved 100 per cent hits, thereby validating their complete capability. The trials met all their planned objectives, the statement said.
