The Department of Justice alleged in a report Thrusday that inadequate treatment of opiate withdrawal contributed to several inmates’ suicides at Cumberland County Jail in recent years.

Federal authorities said they have “reasonable cause to believe” the Cumberland County Jail, where seven inmates died by suicide over three years, “failed to take measures to prevent inmate suicides and provide adequate mental health care,” the U.S. Department of Justice announced Thursday.
