Rochester Police Handcuff and Pepper Spray 9-Year-Old Girl

The 9-year-old girl was placed in handcuffs and pepper-sprayed by police in Rochester. According to CNN, police were responding to a domestic incident on Wednesday, January 27, 2021. Body camera videos of the incident were released on Sunday, January 31. The videos show officers arresting the girl, then they try to put her in the back of the police car. The girl is crying and asking for her dad. When the police officers couldn t get her to place her feet in the vehicle, they are seen pepper-spraying her in the videos. One of the officers can be heard saying just spray her at this point. There are about seven officers on the scene to handle a family situation with the girl.
ROCHESTER, N.Y. – A Rochester, New York, police officer is suspended and two others were placed on administrative leave in the aftermath of an incident on Friday that resulted in a 9-year-old girl being pepper-sprayed.
A total of nine officers attended the scene, but the action was taken against these three at the order of the mayor, a release Monday from Rochester Police Department interim chief Cynthia Herriott-Sullivan confirmed.
The officers are suspended with full pay as per state civil service law.

Police released two bodycam videos Sunday that showed officers restraining a distraught 9-year-old girl who was handcuffed and pepper sprayed when she disobeyed commands.
She indicated she wanted to kill herself and she wanted to kill her mom, he said. Officers tried to force the girl into a patrol car but she pulled away and kicked at them. In a statement Saturday, the police department said this action required an officer to take the girl down to the ground. Then, the department said, for the minor s safety and at the request of the custodial parent on scene, the child was handcuffed and put in the back of a police car as they waited for an ambulance to arrive. Police said the girl disobeyed commands to put her feet in the car. An officer was then required to spray an irritant in the handcuffed girl s face, the department said Saturday.
