Washington: Top US national security aides and other staffers have resigned from President Donald Trump’s administration in protest over the storming of Capitol Hill by his supporters, and officials said more departures were expected soon.
Education Secretary Betsy DeVos resigned on Friday (AEDT) saying Trump s rhetoric was inflection point. She was the second cabinet secretary to abandon the outgoing President after the riots.

Secretary of Transportation Elaine Chao was the first cabinet secretary to resign in protest after Trump incited the mob.
Chao, the wife of Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell, said in an email to staff that the mob attack has deeply troubled me in a way that I simply cannot set aside. She said her resignation would take effect on Monday.

Deputy National Security Adviser Matt Pottinger has become the highest-ranking White House official to resign in the wake of the violence by Trump supporters at the Capitol.
Mr. Pottinger resigned in protest over the episode on Wednesday, Bloomberg reported. His boss, National Security Adviser Robert O’Brien, reportedly was talked out of quitting.
Also resigning on Wednesday were Stephanie Grisham, chief of staff to first lady Melania Trump, and Sarah Matthews, deputy White House press secretary.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu praised US President Donald Trump’s administration for its Middle East policies on Thursday, as the American leader faced widespread criticism at home after hundreds of his supporters stormed the Capitol building the day before.
“I want to thank President Trump and all of you in the administration for all you have done and are doing for peace. You’ve made a real difference, achieving one breakthrough after another, bringing the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Morocco and Sudan into the circle of peace. I have no doubt that more Arab and Muslim countries will follow,” Netanyahu said.

Jerome Marcus announced in a Thursday legal filing that he was withdrawing from his role, claiming he had been “used” by his “repugnant” client.
In the filing with the Eastern District of Pennsylvania, Marcus said he was requesting to withdraw his representation, arguing it had “used” his “services to perpetrate a crime” and adding, “the client insists upon taking action that the lawyer considers repugnant and with which the lawyer has a fundamental disagreement.”
