EDISON – An investigation is underway after a structure that formerly housed the Edison Arts Society was destroyed by a fire Wednesday night that continued smoldering into Thursday morning.
An excavator was brought in to further help extinguish the blaze and tear down the building, according to Deputy Fire Chief Andrew Toth.
Firefighters received a call around 8:15 p.m. Wednesday about a structure fire on Hayduk Drive off Woodland Avenue at the old Edison Arts Society building on about 25 acres of open space acquired by the township during former Mayor George Spadoro s administration.

A few people were gathered in the parking lot of the abandoned fire academy on Zarzamora Street by the time I drove up Monday afternoon.
They were standing in line in front of a mobile testing unit, drawn there by the promise of a free COVID-19 test.
