PALMDALE (CNS) - A man suspected of child abduction and assault with a deadly weapon barricaded himself in an apartment complex and reportedly armed himself with a shotgun in the Palmdale area after leading authorities on a pursuit.
Authorities initially engaged the man, who was driving a silver Prius with a female passenger, in a pursuit in Kern County, CBS2 reported.
The man eventually drove onto the southbound Antelope Valley (14) Freeway in the Lancaster area, and the pursuit was handed off to the California Highway Patrol.
The man reached speeds in excess of 100 mph before he exiting the freeway onto East Avenue S in the Palmdale area and led CHP units into residential areas.

COMPTON (CNS) - Two people, described as males between the ages of 15 and 20, were shot dead in Compton during a shooting that left one person in critical condition and another person in stable condition at area hospital, the Sheriff s Department said today.
The shooting was reported just before 5:30 p.m. Saturday in the 15100 block of South Lime Avenue, according to Deputy Eric Ortiz of the Sheriff s Information Bureau.
Both males, between the ages of 15 and 20 were pronounced dead at the scene, Ortiz said.
Shortly afterward, deputies received information of two additional gunshot victims at an area hospital. One of the victims was in critical condition, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to the upper torso and the other victim, with a gunshot wound to the upper torso, was listed in stable condition, the Sheriff s Information Bureau reported.

A suspect who authorities said gouged at the eyes of a Los Angeles County Sheriff s Department deputy in Cudahy was shot and hospitalized Thursday morning.
Deputies from the East Los Angeles station responded about 9 p.m. Wednesday to a family disturbance call in the 5100 block of Live Oak Street, east of Wilcox Avenue, and talked with the suspect, who had reportedly been assaulting a family member, according to Deputy Eric Ortiz of the Los Angeles County Sheriff s Department. Southern California deputy shoots suspected drunk driver

NORWALK, Calif. - At least one sheriff s deputy shot a suspected drunk driver Friday evening in Southern California during a foot pursuit, authorities said.
The man was taken to the hospital after the shooting, the Los Angeles County Sheriff s Department said in a statement. His condition was not immediately available. No deputies were hurt.
The shooting occurred shortly after 6 p.m. in the city of Norwalk, which is about 15 miles southeast of downtown Los Angeles. Sheriff s deputies handle law enforcement for the city.
Deputy Eric Ortiz said deputies were responding to a potential drunk driver who was operating his vehicle recklessly. A foot pursuit ensued, during which the shooting occurred.
