Real Christmas tree sales soar amid pandemic

Seeking joy during a tumultuous time, Rhode Islanders are ditching their artificial Christmas trees and flocking to local tree farms and retailers this holiday season.
Two weeks into December, many Christmas tree stands had already sold out of their 2020 stock and announced that they’d closed up shop for the remainder of the year.
Officer Joe Brazil of the Woonsocket Police Department runs an annual tree lot on Cumberland Hill Road with the help of friends and volunteers to benefit local charities. This year he sold out of trees in a week and a half, the fastest that’s ever happened in the four years he’s been doing it, he said.
