Second man sentenced in animal cruelty case
ELLSWORTH The case of the shooting death of Franky, a Winter Harbor terrier-pug, was wrapped up Feb. 18 with the sentencing of co-defendant Nathan Burke of Gouldsboro.
Police reported that Franky had been shot in the head, wrapped in trash bags and dumped in the sea, only to wash up on the shore of Hancock County District Attorney Matt Foster’s residence in Hancock in 2018.
As part of an agreement arranged by his attorney, Jeffrey Toothaker, and Deputy District Attorney Toff Toffolon, Burke, 40, pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor count of aggravated cruelty to animals and was sentenced to nine months in jail, which is time Burke already served.
