AURORA, Colo. â Prosecutors say a man who was shot seven times saved the woman he was with by putting his body over hers when her estranged husband approached them and opened fire in Aurora. The suspect was sentenced to prison on May 3.
David William Torrez, 35, of Englewood, pleaded guilty on March 4 to attempted first-degree murder after deliberation. Under his plea agreement, other charges against him were dropped. Arapahoe District Court Judge Darren Vahle sentenced him to the maximum sentence allowed under the plea agreement â 45 years, according to the 18th Judicial District Attorney s Office.

DOUGLAS COUNTY, Colo. A convicted sex offender who kidnapped a woman at knifepoint and sexually assaulted her before she was able to get help at a gas station has been sentenced to 48 years in prison.
Paul Nader, 32, was sentenced on Monday. Per an agreement with prosecutors, he pleaded guilty to first-degree assault and aggravated robbery, as well as two sentence enhancers for crime of violence.
Paul Nader was sentenced to 48 years in prison Monday for kidnapping, beating and sexually assaulting a woman in Douglas County, the 18th Judicial District Attorney’s Office announced.
Nader, a registered sex offender living in Colorado Springs, pleaded guilty to first-degree assault and aggravated robbery in September.
“This defendant is unfit to be in society and unable to participate in the world,” the victim said during the sentencing on Monday.
“Each sex assault case is worse than the prior. I highly doubt the next victim will be as lucky as me.”
Nader, 32, kidnapped the woman on Aug. 14, 2018, forcing her into his vehicle at knifepoint outside of a coffee shop, prosecutors said.
