BOYNTON BEACH Police officials in Boynton Beach have added an incentive in their search for new officers – a signing bonus.
Since November, the department has offered a $5,000 check for certified officers – those who have gone through academy training and passed the state exam – that join the city s police force.
Interim Deputy Chief Vanessa Snow said the plan to dangle cash was hatched as an out-of-the-box solution to attract applicants who have already invested time in themselves.
The inducement appears to be working. Snow reports that 26 certified police officers applied for jobs in November. In the months before, maybe one or two certified officers applied, she said.
