CAMPBELL A man, who pleaded guilty to attempting to smuggle cocaine into the United States, was on Wednesday given the option of paying a $20,000 or spending two years in prison. Raymond Evans, 22, was traveling to Boston, Massachusetts, on May 23 when Customs and Border Patrol foiled his smuggling attempt. The agents called police officers, who found a brick of cocaine taped to his back when they searched him. Evans allegedly told officers that he had been recruited by a man that he only knew as “Rod”.

Kiemon Newbold A 26-year-old man was on Monday denied bail after being accused of two counts of unlawful sexual intercourse. Prosecutors say Kiemon Newbold, of Periwinkle Alley, Kemp Road, had unlawful relations with a 15-year-old girl in February 2021 and on April 19. The age of consent is 16. Newbold did not have to enter pleas to the charges when he appeared before Deputy Chief Magistrate Andrew Forbes. Newbold was remanded to prison, as the magistrate lacks jurisdiction to consider bail for the offense. However, he was advised of his right to seek bail in the Supreme Court. Newbold returns to court on June 11, for the presentation of a voluntary bill of indictment.

The pair are accused of forging a Ministry of Tourism cheque for $1.2 million that was made payable to their law firm Campbell Chase and Co in September 2019. Her son allegedly cashed the forged check on September 6, 2019.
