Firefighters responded to a house fire at South 5th and West Becher streets in Milwaukee Tuesday morning. While trying to extinguish the flames, a thief stole a battery-powered drill off of an MFD truck, Deputy Chief Dewayne Smoots said. Firefighters said they did not need the tool at the scene. But it could have caused future problems, Smoots said. Say if we hadn t noticed the tool was missing and then we go to the next one and we go to look for that tool now it isn t there, Smoots said. Now you re calling somebody else in to look for it and now it s taking extra time. In our line of business, time is everything.
