New draft hospital consultant contracts received ‘only recently’
Surgeons in some parts of the country only have access to operating theatres for a half day a week, the Joint Committee on Health heard this morning at the latest Oireachtas discussions on the impact of Covid-19 on cancer services (June 2).
The meeting heard of the ‘double blow’ of Covid-19 and the cyberattack on cancer services, with effects forecast to last for five, 10 and 15 years into the future.
This was added to pre-Covid pressures of long waiting lists, access and capacity issues in addition to a shortage of consultants.
