Darran Johnson drove recklessly the night he got into the crash that killed Broward Sheriff’s Deputy Benjamin Nimtz, a jury decided Friday. But Johnson, of Boynton Beach, was found not guilty of the most serious charges against him, DUI manslaughter and vehicular homicide.
The trial of a man accused of causing a crash that killed Broward Sheriff’s deputy in 2019 came to a close on Thursday, and now the jury needs to decide if the Boynton man is guilty of DUI manslaughter and vehicular homicide.
Jurors listened intently Tuesday as Assistant Broward State Attorney Ross Weiner laid out the case against Darran Johnson, 36, who told investigators that morning that he was in Miami and could not remember the accident that killed Broward Sheriff's Deputy Darran Johnson.
On Monday, jurors will be selected to decide whether Darran Johnson is criminally responsible for causing the crash that ended the life of Broward Sheriff's Deputy Benjamin Nimtz in 2019. Johnson is facing charges of vehicular homicide and DUI manslaughter.
