Use of schools as COVID-19 vaccination centers should be approved by DepEd

The government continues to roll out its COVID-19 vaccination program (ALI VICOY / MANILA BULLETIN) “Meanwhile, on the use of schools as vaccination centers, DepEd gives the responsibility to approve or deny requests of LGUs to use DepEd schools for activities related to the COVID-19 outbreak to Regional Directors [RDs],” the department said. DepEd added that such move should be consistent with the OM-OSEC-2020-002 which sets the guidance to regional directors for action on requests by local government units (LGUs) to use DepEd schools for activities related to COVID-19 such as for quarantine or isolation areas. The department noted that the same guidance can also be used by RDs for approving or denying requests of LGUs for the use of schools vaccination activities.

(JANSEN ROMERO / FILE PHOTO / MANILA BULLETIN) While there were issues with the SLMs in terms of their content during the first quarter, DepEd Undersecretary for Curriculum and Instruction Diosdado San Antonio told the Manila Bulletin that “we addressed them and made sure that further materials would be quality assured.” Due to the ongoing health situation in the country brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic, DepEd is implementing distance learning as a major component of learning delivery to 22.7 million students who enrolled in public schools this school year.

DepEd science fair winners feted in GBF Young Scientist Award Ceremony Share on email The Gokongwei Brothers Foundation (GBF) conferred on November 27 the GBF Young Scientist Award to 12 student-researchers whose projects bagged top prizes at the Department of Education’s (DepEd) 2020 National Science and Technology Fair (NSTF) and represented the Philippines in the 2020 International Science and Engineering Fair.  The recognition came with a college scholarship to encourage the young scientists to pursue science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). More than a thousand students, teachers, friends, and family members across the country tuned in to the virtual event as the young innovators and their respective projects were given their time in the spotlight.
