Several amendments were on the Nov. 8 ballot. The two most controversial initiatives are Missouri Amendment 3, which legalizes recreational marijuana for adults over 21, and the Missouri Constitutional Convention.
The constitutional amendment allows recreational marijuana in Missouri and will clear nonviolent marijuana-related charges from criminal records. However, the proposal faced fierce criticism from organizations as disparate as the NAACP and Pro-Choice Missouri.
Two other issues on the ballot passed, including a measure creating a separate Missouri Department of the National Guard and one that forces Kansas City to increase the funding for its police department. Two measures failed: One giving the treasury greater leeway in investing and the other prompting the state to hold a constitutional convention.
